Why did they get rid of me?
Well, that's an interesting question. How long's a length of string?

I knew what I was getting into. It was what I wanted. Sex on tap. She was famous round here. Dear Herbert letter. Daughters. Rows of 'em. Absolute rows of 'em.

It all began when she married im. Droppin sprogs any day. Both died. One later than the other. Not so much as an eadstone. Nuthin.

Then there was the 'Dear Herbert' letter, (about which, more later). Noboddy much. Whiskery old fool. Useful though.

But I'll say this to my daughters: (apologies to Rydyard Kipling)

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are telling lies and blaming it on you;
If you can trust yourself when all about you,
Will let you down , misrepresenting too.

If you can write and not be tired by writing,
Or, being written off, don't let their lies
Discourage you and all your fond delighting,
Don't let them take your strength, for otherwise

You would not dream - and that would be disaster;
You would not think - but do make thoughts your aim;
Don't let them win, and you will be their master,
You'll make them bow their heads and play the game.

When you can tear and rip the lies they've spoken
And throw them back a bonfire of their rules,
And see them burn in fire they have awoken,
By killing me - and taking you as fools;

When you can reach right back to my beginnings
Before I won the riches - and the loss,
You'll take the prize collecting all my winnings
Some made of baser metal - forged in Moss;

If you remember, I was down to sinew
As I recall it, all my trust had gone,
Where I was dying, you still had it in you
To say you kill him and to say: "Hold on";

If you can speak to crowds and claim their virtue,
If you can tell it all - just as it is;
And bring them jail - then kings will not desert you;
They will applaud - and so will my own Liz.

If you can take the second and the minute
Collecting up their guilts until you've done
The earth is yours my daughters, so begin it,
Reclaim my peace! Don't stop, until you've won!
